BODY WEATHER TRAINING BERLIN
january
Introduction

For the first time in Berlin, Body Weather KiM Training (BWK) establishes the possibility of permanent training and practice of this complete body- mind training. This is an absolute relevant training method for dancers, body artists and movers from all sources. The Body Weather concept was originally created by Japanese dancer/choreographer Min Tanaka and further developed by some dance laboratories worldwide. Body Weather KiM is a synthesis of the original and further elements designed by Elías Cohen deriving from Martial Arts, Classical Indian Dance, methods by Gurdjeff etc. The essential aim of Body Weather is to awaken the intelligence of the body by experiencing our physicality in all its capacities and possibilities.

t
The work is divided in two main areas

1- MB (mind/body, muscles/bones)

dynamic body mind training through the space creating great group awareness using image work, dance techniques (from modern to traditional Asiatic), sports and martial arts. Enhances and develops flexibility, creative physicality, endurance, precision and coordination.

2- Chinese Manipulations

couple work of body manipulations where the breathing plays an essential role creating great conscience about the Human Body structure and its layers.

Our vision of Body Weather gives special attention to the concept of Ma-Ai. This term is usually used in traditional Japanese martial arts referring to the distance or emptiness between two or more people in motion. This distance is sacred as it creates the total awareness of us in community with others during the practice. There is a whole section dedicated to the main physical principles driven from martial arts into dance and movements of great power and precision. The coordination aerobic section is also enhanced with elements from Bharata Natyam (Indian Classical Dance) that work with great geometrical patterns to unite both brain hemispheres for a total body mind work out. The Manipulations give a deep work to the whole muscular, bone structure and deep psyche. BWK also focuses on how to manipulate someone else’s body stretching and healing at the same time by introducing important elements from Tao Shiatsu and Tuina (Chinese massage).

Body Weather Training (BWT) is based on community and sharing. When we say “community”, it means that you are together with other people sharing a common experience. It is not just about a “personal” training to be in a good physical condition as a mover or dancer. Sharing means to give the best of yourself to the community you are working with.
What are we giving during the practice?
-We are giving our best internal smile to ourselves and our working partners.
-We are giving all our strength and energy during the practice (the more energy you give the more energy you get).
-We are giving our best intentions while working with Body Manipulations,
and wake up our internal healer to give great touch and relief to our partner.

Main Concepts BWT KiM,  Berlin:
Connection & Rhythm: some of the movement patterns can be complex when you are just starting. The most important is to keep the connection with your partner, to have him/her always beside you. Keep the rhythm rather than just the forms of the movements.

Weathers: “Bodies are not conceived as fixed and separate entities but are - just like the weather - constantly changing through an infinite and complex system of processes occurring in- and outside of these bodies” .
In BWT KiM, we pay attention to three different weathers: 1) The outside weather-environment, 2) the weather-environment inside the studio and 3) the weather-environment inside us. We are alert to the changes that might occur during the practice between those three. We also understand Weather as “Mood” (animus), sensations, interaction, frictions and flavours that might appear in our body-mind while training.

Buddha Face: a little smile in our lips and a total relaxed forehead during the practice even in the moment of exhausting effort. The Buddha Face helps us to keep a light and meditative state of mind during practice.

Ma Ai: dynamic empty space between the participants that should be kept and respected during the training.

The practice of BWT can be a great mirror of our habits and personal patterns. So encourage yourself to go beyond them. The BWT is based on the perception of seeing the way as a circular unity. So do the exercises as best as you can in the whole circular trajectory of forth and back. Consider this practice as an “Embody Philosophy” where the nature of human mind is totally connected and shaped by our body and the way we use it and explore with it. Enjoy it!!
